Prophet Daniel

Young Daniel was among the first prisoners, sons of distinguished families, who were taken from Jerusalem to Babylon in the year 605 AD.  Undergoing training there for service at King Nebuchadnezzar’s Court together with other youths of noble descent, Daniel demonstrated, along with three others of his age, his steadfastness in remaining faithful to the food laws of his fathers.  He knew also how to satisfy his thirst for knowledge through abstinence.  As a result, he excelled in awareness and understanding of all fields of literature and knowledge, particularly in the field of visions and dreams that was so highly respected by the Babylonians.  And it was precisely this ability, this God-given knowledge, that enabled him to convince the king to acknowledge the true God, and to have patience with His worshippers (interpretation of the dream of the ornamented column of gold and silver, ore, iron and clay = the succession of four empires up to the time of the Messiah ...).
It was during this reign and the reign of King Nabonid (555-539 AD) and the true son of Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazar, that Daniel in some cases was able to see into the most distant future.  With his vision of fighting angels he revealed to the king the battles that were taking place between the Persians and the Greeks for world domination up to Alexander the Great, and also the battles between Egypt and Syria that were to pass over the Jewish people in Palestine, to take place instead in Antioch.  IV Epiphanies...
Daniel is a prophet not only of his people, but of all people of his time. With particular clarity he foresaw the Messiah and his kingdom which would succeed the four previous kingdoms and engulf the entire world and outlast all time. More than all the other prophets, Daniel glorified the name of the Lord among the heathens.  Daniel, the greatest of his time, was the servant of his time and of all time. Nothing is known of his end.  He is said to be buried in the Susa region of Persia.
