 Apostle Jakobus the older (Cot, Jim, Jago)

(25th July) The son of the Zebedäus and Maria Salome, belongs as an apostle particularly to appeal, sending (Spain), transfiguration, Communion, Gethsemane, Ascension Day and Pentecost. The legend lets him preach immediately after the Ascension Day in Spain and followers advertise with the prediction that the dead person would convert once, nevertheless, innumerable. In Samaria and Jerusalem he(it) farther announces the Gospel, to him Herodes Agrippa allows to behead (Apg. 12.2)... His(its) bones should be in the famous pilgrimage place Compostela (Spain).
Individual displays show him in ideal national costume, by the mussel marked; from 13. Jhd. in is he(it) pilgrim with hat, coat, pilgrim's rod, umgehängte pocket(bag) and bottle. In older representations book and roll(role) are still marks of his(its) activity than preacher; he(it) carries the sword as a mark of his(its) decapitation in the 3 king stay (1186, Cologne cathedral). To all pilgrims and pilgrims he(it) is the distinct protection saint.
