Apostle Philip (Phillipot, Fillipo) 1st/3rd May
Called by Christ to follow him, (John 1,43-46),
Philip is always represented together with all the other apostles, with Bible or scroll from the twelfth century on (The Shrine of the Three Kings in Cologne Cathedral). From the
fourteenth century on he is shown with the cross in T-form (Latin cross), also with staff and scourge. His mission area is said to have been Phrygia. He was often called together
with St. Philippus whom the apostles had appointed one of seven deacons, and who is said to be the founder of Ethiopian Christianity. The relics of both saints are presumed kept at
the Church of the Apostles in Rome.
